Top officials from Cambodia and the Philippines have sent each other congratulations on the 65th anniversary of the start of their diplomatic ties (Aug. 20, 1957-Aug. 20, 2022).
While people-to-people contact has continued to grow closer over the past 65 years, despite the effects of regional and global problems, both sides recalled the friendly relations and beneficial cooperation in many sectors in their respective statements.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to collaborating more closely to strengthen the bonds and increase cooperation between Cambodia and the Philippines for the benefit of both peoples. By doing this, they will be able to contribute to the peace, stability, sustainable growth, and prosperity of the ASEAN Community and beyond.
In honor of the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Pledged on Saturday to strengthen ties with Cambodia.
Marcos Jr. stressed his desire to deepen the “enduring relationship” between the Philippines and Cambodia in a letter dated August 20 to King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia.
The President declared, “I am dedicated to further deepening and expanding our collaboration and cooperation, as both of our nations work toward greater economic and social growth for the benefit of our peoples.”
They have strengthened our relationships over time through ongoing bilateral engagement in the political, security, economic, socio-cultural, and educational spheres, as well as collaboration with regional and global flora. Our interpersonal interactions also continue to strengthen our enduring connection, he noted.

King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his fervent belief that the close ties of friendship and collaboration between Cambodia and the Philippines will continue to flourish in the years to come in a letter to Romualdez Marcos Jr, the Philippines’ freshly elected president.
I am very pleased to see that over the past 65 years, our two nations have benefited from enduring links and fruitful cooperation in various fields, while the people-to-people interactions continue to strengthen despite the consequences.
Romualdez Marcos Jr. also penned a letter to the monarch pointing out that the two countries and peoples’ ties go back to ancient times and highlighting King Norodom’s visit to the Philippines in 1872.
Our bilateral contacts in the areas of politics, security, economy, socio-culture, and education have continued throughout the years, as have our joint efforts in regional and international fora.

Romualdez Marcos Jr. and Prime Minister Hun Sen also wrote each other letters to mark the milestone. In order to strengthen their ties and increase cooperation between Cambodia and the Philippines for the benefit of their respective peoples, he said that the commemoration reaffirms their commitment to doing so. This will help to promote peace, stability, sustainable development, and prosperity within the ASEAN region and beyond.
Considering this, I would like to cordially welcome Your Excellency to visit the Kingdom of Cambodia. Hun Sen wrote in his letter, “Please accept with the reaffirmed pledges of my greatest consideration.
Romualdez Marcos Jr. expressed his support for Cambodia’s successful ASEAN Chairmanship and stated his commitment to working closely with Hun Sen.
Prak Sokhonn, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, and Enrique Manalo, the equivalent from the Philippines, also exchanged diplomatic letters in which both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties between their two nations.
